County council passed Seven Persons Creek engineering study request

Alberta Transportation’s south regional director Darren Davidson was in Cypress County Council Chamber on Oct. 20 to discuss the Seven Persons Creek drainage infrastructure.
AT has encouraged Cypress County for 15 years to take over their infrastructure on the creek at the Township Road 120 crossing.
“The existing structures were designed to take high water out of the original creek channel and push the water through the multi-plate,” the agenda item reads.
“This has access issues, and routine maintenance requires Alberta Environment approval which has been very costly and timely.”
The noted items of interest over the years include: historical complaints regarding flows from the residents in the original channel and diversion, flood damage that AT made temporary repairs on in 2011, water license with AT’s name, AT’s history of trying to transfer to the County and there was no record of it and AT’s history of permanent repairs before transfer.
“AT and Cypress County are working together to come to a consensus and a solution,” said Tarolyn Aaserud, Cypress County chief administrative officer.
Council directed administration to engage engineering consultant to review the proposed infrastructure for the purposes of developing a repost reviewing future operating and capital costs.

As per council’s approval, the Hilda Community Hall’s roof repair will be completed and cost $6,977.25 and come from the Recreation Capital Reserve.
Recreation Master Plan
Council passed the Recreation Master Plan as presented and directed administration to bring back priorities and strategies in February 2021.
The purpose of the County’s RMP is “to create an attainable mission and clear direction for the sustainable delivery of recreation parks services for the next 15 plus years.”
