Winnifred News – Mrs. Bertha Annon
– The Hutterites are building a telephone line 10 miles east from their Colony to connect with the line to Medicine Hat.
– Eugene Angle is having his house moved to Bow Island this week. The house is moving contractors were B. Weir and Paul Nelson. Art Keeler is also employed by them.
Burdett – Mrs. Donald Warren
– Philip Van Oostenburgge left for Peace River where he will be employed on an elevator construction crew.
– Roy and Glen Carelton of Cabri, Saskatchewan and Wilson Carleton of Ontario along with Floyd Wilson of Bow Island were Saturday evening visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Torgerson.
Bow Island
-Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zacher and Marty were Calgary visitors on Friday, when Marty made arrangements to take up Drafting and Blueprinting at the Calgary Tech School. He leaves this week to begin his course.
-Sheila Halpin has accepted a position as Dietician on the staff at the General Hospital in Calgary, and has begun her duties as of last week.
Foremost
– Joyce Granberg who is attending Lutheran College in Camrose has been in hospital there owing to an accident while playing basketball.
– Darlene Granberg has returned from Calgary where she made application and wrote exams for entrance into the Nursing Branch of the Navy.
– Our town is showing many improvements: more of the old board walks have been ripped up and new cement walks laid. The new Post Office, being built by Mrs. R. Thompson, at an approximate cost of $10,000 is under construction. It is being built of cinder brick and has a front of Roman tile. It is situated on the site of the old Post Office of some years back and has an area of 900 square feet.
Bow Island
-Dan Byam will commence his duties as janitor of the Gershaw School on October 1st. Replacing Ernie White who has retired because of his health.
– There is a half page advertisement. “Southern Alberta Lions Fastball Championship” – The Bow Island Club has challenged the Conquerville Club. Bow Island Ball Park. Sunday, October 6 at 3:00p.m. Conquerville with blue sweaters – Bow Island with white shirts. Proceeds for the Conquerville Community Hall.
– Keith Stromsmoe, who has been spending a month’s holiday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al Stromsmoe, returned to the U of A this week to complete the final year in Electrical engineering. Keith spent the greater part of the summer at Clinton, Ontario at Officers Training School. He graduated from there with a Diploma for Telecommunications.
