My last week here in Medicine Hat has been quite the adventure to say the least. I recently visited the emergency room with my boyfriend as he had major tooth pain. There is nothing like seeing your loved one in so much pain, but with a dentist appointment around the corner, he’ll be better soon.
After the hospital, it’s been non-stop packing for me and we are almost done. With the move coming up so soon, it makes me sad to leave the Hat, as it has served a lot of firsts for me. My first car, my first house with my boyfriend, my first dog and most importantly my first career in my field. I have really had so much fun out here and it was great to meet so many incredible people through interviews and events. I truly have learned a lot.
With the move, it also makes me realize how much I’ve grown up over the past year as I came out here fresh out of university. I have learned the rules of the road, the responsibility of paying for bills and to really come out of my shell through my career.
Both Redcliff and Cypress County have been great learning atmospheres. I have gotten to know both town councils well and have enjoyed my time learning the different issues. There have also been countless people I have met along the way that have provided me with great information, and for that I thank you greatly and it was so nice meeting you.
My boss, Jamie Rieger is also someone I want to thank so much for helping me grow as a journalist. I really have learned so much at the Cypress Courier and I thank her greatly for her encouragement, knowledge, patience and laughs along the way, it truly has been a pleasure. When I was ever confused and there were those moments, I’d give her a call and she was there in a second.
Another person I want to thank is my boyfriend. He has been my rock. I don’t think I could have done this whole journey without him by my side. He left his high paying job in Toronto to come out here with me to Medicine Hat and for that I am eternally grateful. I couldn’t ask for a better companion. It has been a blast taking him to events and having him by my side for support the whole way. I love him more than words.
I also want to thank my family, who are my biggest fans. Even though they are provinces away, they have been amazing. Paying for my whole education to allow me to follow my dreams is something I thank them for everyday. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Well, it’s another adventure, but I will be back here to visit and most importantly I will keep what I have learned always. Thank you everyone for taking me in. It sure has been one incredible ride.
