Much to be thankful for

We sometimes say it out of hand: Thank you for this. Thank you for that. Thanks. But very seldom do we put our heart into the expression and truly mean it. It’s a polite, empty nothingness.
This week marks Thanksgiving and there are a  lot of things we should say thank you for, and mean it. We live in one of the greatest democracy’s in the world. One of the safest societies. Within one of the world’s largest reserves of fresh water and pristine wilderness. Our people our prosperous. Our borders are unthreatened. We have the gift of an open media and a culture where we can express our true opinions and honest feelings without fear of the secret police.
And on a more personal level, we have a country where, if someone works hard, they can get ahead and advance their social standing. And we have a region here in southern Alberta where we can enjoy so many abundances and opportunities. We are blessed.
Religion may not be popular today in some sectors of society. But religion is not required for God’s blessing; only that our hearts be open to it.
Every day we walk this earth and have the happiness that comes from family and friends around us. It comes from the blue sky, the bright sun on green grass and the silvery shimmer of running waters.
There are so many wonders to behold in this world, and we live in a society which can appreciate them as they are without the overhanging fear so apparent in oppressed nations in every corner of the world. Places where war is rife. Corruption is endemic. And the boot heels of the marching men trod down upon the necks of masses.
On this Thanksgiving holiday weekend we wish all our readers joy, abundance and peace.
