Making Halloween memories

Once again, the weather was reasonably pleasant for all of the little trick-or-treaters on Halloween. It is so much better seeing them go from door to door collecting goodies when it is nice out than when the sidewalks are a sheet of ice or the temperatures have plummeted to the -20-degree range.
My granddaughter, Paige dressed up as a cute little witch this year and while she went out with her mom and dad last year, this year will likely be the first one she will remember and was the first one she got excited about.
I don’t think the candy was what had her all geared up, but the knocking at doors and yelling, “Trick or treat!” And, of course getting to see all the other youngsters’ costumes.
She enjoyed some of the decorated yards, but she was a little bashful walking up the sidewalk of some of the spookier yards.
She did pretty good for a three-year old until she approached one house that when she stepped on an outdoor mat, it screamed at her. That was it. Paige was done for the night. Thankfully, we went to this house near the end of our route and not at the beginning or she would have gone home with an empty pillow sack.
Of course, I was on grandma duty and taking pics of Paige with her parents as they went from house to house and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I remember how much fun my daughter and me had when I would take her out on her favourite night of the year (it still is!) and now, seeing how much fun Carmen and Mike have taking Paige trick-or-treating brings back all those fond memories.
I’m sure Paige will be eating Halloween candy until Christmas and hopefully, she will recall this Halloween with all the fond memories I am sure to have. And, hopefully, she forgets about the ‘screaming mat’.
