Ready to embrace the new year

2015 got a quick send-off with a swift kick in the back doors, that is for certain. I don’t think they are many Albertans who were sad to see it go either.
Without regurgitating all the economic doom and gloom of the past 12 months, I think it is fair to say good riddance proper fashion and welcome the upcoming year with hope high expectations.
It will be a tough haul, for sure, at least for the first few months as things start to restabilize and life can return to some kind of normal; although I do believe our ‘normal’ has changed and we all will need to adapt.
Go tell the businessman who had to lay off dozens of his staff in the last year that he should be more innovative and at the moment, he will likely show you the way out. He already knows this and is likely working on it as I write this. Telling somebody what they should be doing when times are as tough as they are is like kicking a man when he’s down. He knows it hurts and is working on getting himself back on his feet. Lend him a helping hand so he can dust himself off, yes, but there’s no reason the be condescending about it. “Ya should’ve ducked and maybe ya wouldn’t have took the sucker punch in the first place.” Perhaps, that’s not the kind of attitude we should be presenting right now.
Also, I am not suggesting we move forward with kid gloves, either. While pussyfooting around sensitive topics is not typically productive, a certain degree of sensitivity is in order.
So, let’s move into 2016 with optimism and hope, but let’s not forget that there are still many of us out there who are suffering.
