Great time to be a Red Sox fan

How nice it is when I can sit down and watch a Red Sox game and they pull off a win for me. In fact, I have been able to watch a few games recently and they have been slugging out the hits and racking up the wins. I am used to them starting the season slowly, so this is a real nice change.
They have been so good at the plate, in fact, that they have been averaging more than 10 runs per game. I am almost certain that hitting coach, Chili Davis, who joined the team last year has a lot to do with the outstanding improvements being seen in many of the players.
And none more impressive than David Ortiz, aka Big Papi, who at 40 years old, is in his final year and will be retiring at the end of the season. Ortiz, known for hitting long balls if the pitcher gives even a smidgen of an opportunity already has 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. Not bad for a guy who is in his golden years of playing ball.
Ortiz, over the years, has become one of the most beloved players of the Red Sox organization, not only for his contributions on the field, but for his light-hearted nature and community-minded spirit. All Red Sox fans remember exactly what he said following the bombing at the Boston marathon. Many even proudly wear a T-shirt with the saying written across the front in bold letters. “This is our effing city!”
Big Papi is such an appropriate moniker for the oversized slugger with the heart of gold. On Saturday, after getting a home run, tripling in the tying run, and an RBI double in the 11th inning, he could have spent time boasting to the reporters on hand to interview him after the win against the Astros. Instead, he departed the ball park because he had his daughter’s birthday party to get to.
While Ortiz is definitely making the most of his final season, the whole team is having a very impressive start to the season and hopefully, I will be able to watch many more games like the ones I have been watching lately.
