Planning for those summer activities

Yee haw! Here it is mid-June. The graduates have all held their celebrations and school is about to wind down for another term.
Summer activities will be on the minds of all those studious youngsters as they wait for the final ring of the bell at the end of the month.
Then, it will be on to the fun stuff like swimming lessons, camping trips with the family, and those oh so enjoyable dog days when not much of anything gets done, except for maybe sipping lemonade under the shade of a tree in the backyard….that is, after mom and dad get after you to mow the lawn first, of course.
There will be bikes to be rode, friends to hang out with, and ice cream and watermelon to be eaten. Oh yes, those summer days will soon be upon us.
I remember those long June school days, studying for final exams and getting those last projects completed and handed in. School in June could be some of the longest days of the year (and actually, they are the longest days of the year).
But, they were sometimes some of the best. In between writing exams and essays, there were always those end-of-the-year field trips and activity days that kind of balanced out the studies  a bit.
Still, I couldn’t wait for my swimming lessons with my siblings and camping trips with the whole family packed in the van heading for destinations unknown (at least to us kids).
These days, my summer activities include taking photos at a few area rodeos and those are about to kick off soon, starting with the Foremost Rodeo this weekend.
A day spent getting dirty, dusty, and thirsty taking photos of the bucking broncs and rank bulls is a day well spent, I must say. When I go home hot, thirsty, tired, and sunburned, I know it has been a good day at the rodeo grounds and I look forward to another summer of sitting at the fenceline in hopes of getting some really great pictures.
