Damaging off-season for Blue Jays

It just seems like yesterday that the Toronto Blue Jays season had ended at the hands of the more superior Cleveland Indians. Now we’re here in February talking about another spring training as the ‘Boys of Summer’ reported to camp last week… time flies right? For the Blue Jays, the off-season could’ve slowed down in terms of decision making because there wasn’t enough thought going into the core of their team. You had the ‘Big 3’ with Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista and  Edwin Encarnacion (double E) in the heart of you order that did damage on most nights, who were the most lethal combo in the league and a pitcher’s nightmare. However, damage is the word that can best describe the Jays offseason as they let double E go to the Indians, who quite frankly was the most  entertaining player on a game-by-game basis. The Jays really lost out on a talent that put his heart in soul into the team and wanted to win a World Series title with this club and just like that they turned their back on him. They decided to go out and sign seasoned slugger Kendrys Morales, which really put a dagger in Encarnacion’s return during free agency in terms of money and infielder Steve Pearce. Oh and to put the icing on the cake, they signed the cocky, big egoed Bautista at the very end of free agency who should’ve been shown the exit for all the distractions he’s caused.  Encarnacion was the real deal for this ball club with the energy he put into this club because he very rarely complained anything and helped where he could.  We’re into another spring training with these new acquisitions and yes they can produce but how often will they come up in clutch like Encarnacion so often did. There is plenty offense to go around but the void left by double- E is going to take some time to replace. Spring training please help Canada’s baseball team find these answers and hopefully by next fall these moves pay off.
