MP Report: Pattern of government failures challenging for Canadians

With fewer than six months until Canadians head to the polls, it is crucial that voters scrutinize the Trudeau Liberals disturbing pattern of failures.
In 3.5 years, Trudeau’s numerous failures on the world stage have damaged Canada’s reputation and diminished future trading prospects. His refusal to be ethical and transparent has destroyed trust in our government and revealed an inability to get things done.
In the last few months alone, corruption related to prosecutorial, judicial and political interference – think SNC-Lavalin and Vice-Admiral Norman trial; insider leaks of confidential information related to the appointment of a Supreme Court Justice, undertaken to discredit a former Liberal minister; plus yet another ethics probe, all add to Trudeau’s legacy of failure.
His approach to pipelines, from Bills C-48 and C-69, killing Northern Gateway, the veto of Energy East and obstruction of Trans Mountain – even after using taxpayers’ dollars to purchase the line – has turned an already precarious economy in western Canada into a full-blown national economic crisis.
Trudeau tossed out his promised ‘working on the best deal for Canada’ with the ongoing failure to renegotiate better terms under NAFTA.
His failure to show leadership on the world stage is reflected in agricultural trade erosion, all due to irresponsible political disputes. India, one of Canada’s largest importers of pulse crops began hiking tariffs on peas and lentils in 2017; strict country of origin labeling rules resulted in a drop of Canadian durum wheat imports to Italy; Saudi Arabia terminated the purchase of Canadian wheat and barley; and most recently China revoked canola seed export permits. International trade is far too important to ignore, yet that is what the government is doing, and it is having a catastrophic impact on Canadian farmers.
Trudeau and his followers are unbelievably out of touch with what Canadians want. They refuse to listen, even when the voices of everyday Canadians are raised.
People want debt reduction. Instead Liberals introduced $41 billion in brand new spending, putting the country’s total debt over $705 billion with an additional $74 billion debt projected over the next five years. A Conservative government will focus on reducing debt and balancing budgets.
Canadians want criminals targeted, stricter penalties for possession and use of illegal guns, improved border security and a focus on illegal firearms. Yet, Liberals introduced Bill C-71, legislation targeting legal firearms’ owners.
Conservatives understand what people want. Last fall we introduced a three-pillar vision for a safer Canada among our policy priorities. These policies clearly align with the common-sense priorities of hard working Canadians. These include measures that give law-enforcement tools and funding to target gangs in our communities, tougher penalties for gangs and gang crimes, and go after illegal weapons and border smuggling.
For me, it is hard not to get angry with Trudeau’s blatant disregard for Canadians and what’s best for Canada. In October 2019 this can change with an engaged and respectful Conservative government leading Canada. Our country’s future depends on it.
