Have you ever had one of those embarrassing moments when you meet up with somebody you haven’t seen in a very long time and suddenly can’t remember their name?
I think, but not positive, that those moments qualify as brain farts.
I had such a moment a few days ago when I was attending a function in Redcliff. I ran into a few people I hadn’t seen in years, and one who I hadn’t seen since high schools. (We both agreed that neither of us have a bit over the days.)
Ok, that part wasn’t a brain fart, but was a delusion on both our parts. Or, just bad eye sight that has nothing to do with age.
Whilst there, I saw one lady walk in and of course, I remembered her and her name, too. Ellie.
At one point, I went across the room to chitchat a bit and she really caught me off guard when she asked if I remembered her and what her name was. For some reason, at that very moment, my brain went completely blank and I stood there like a fool.
Not 10 minutes before that I had no problem recognizing her and her name when she walked in the room.
I have no idea why it happened then and I am pretty sure everybody has these moments from time to time, but that doesn’t take away from the embarrassment in the slightest.
Ellie just sluffed it off and said I was forgiven because it had been so many years since I had seen her.
Little Pat sitting next to her made sure she got a few teasing jabs in though. That’s alright. I deserve them.
I was taught years ago that when you first meet somebody, you repeat their name often so you don’t forget it. And usually that works for me.
However, I certainly did not think I would need to put that practice to use with somebody I have known nearly my entire life.
For my brain fart, Ellie, I am sorry!
