Down Memory Lane: 1957; Vacation time in southern Alberta

Bow Island
– Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Heck of Lethbridge were weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reg Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Taylor of Stettler also stayed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Taylor over the weekend.
– Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hoel accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ernie White are on holidays to Barrhead, Alberta where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Robt. White and family and to Vegreville where they visited with another son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Ross White. Brent and Joan, grandchildren, came back to Bow Island.
– Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Thomas of Medicine Hat were Sunday visitors at the home of Mrs. Thomas’ brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McNeely.
– Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Schonert, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. N. Rowley left Sunday for Yellowstone Park and will travel further on to the Grand Coulee Dam and Southern States.
– Mr. and Mrs. Steve Szaniszlo and Julia motored to Bowden last Thursday to visit a daughter, Mrs. S. Gruzman, Julia went on to Edmonton to visit with Misses Meyers and McMurray and also did some shopping. On returning home the Szaniszlo’s brought their three grand-children with them to visit and take in the Hat Stampede.
– Helene Mellen has been at home with her mother since their recent bereavement; Helene had just begun a summer school course at the West Coast when she was told of the untimely passing of her father.
– Marguerite York who taught the Grade 11 Class at Gershaw School for past few terms has accepted a position on the staff at the RCAF base at Claresholm.

The following items were taken from the July 18, 1957 issue of the Bow Island Graphic.
– Violet Funk and Muriel Martin are now employed on staff at the telephone office.
– Jerry and Bobby Matsumoto are spending their summer holidays with their grandparents at Monarch.
– On Saturday evening members of the local Legion and Auxiliary and their escorts met together honouring Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Nicolay, of Lethbridge, by having a social and a wiener roast down by the river north of Burdett. Harold (the Beaver) Willis, President of the Legion presented the Nicolays with a farewell gift, an electric frying pan, everybody had a fine time at the outing.
– Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Garrison were recent visitors at the home of Mr. Garrison’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Curran. Mrs. Garrison and her son Garry are staying in Bow Island with relatives until the school holiday is over.
