Burdett – Mrs. Donald Warren:
-Mr. and Mrs. Dean Thacker are receiving congratulations on the birth of a son.
-Gail Thacker, who is attending school in Calgary, spent the weekend at her home here and Mrs. Clarence Collins and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morgan Sr.
-Mr. and Mrs. Bert van der Sloot are receiving congratulations on the birth of a daughter.
-Mr. and Mrs. Orville Reber are receiving congratulations on the birth of a daughter in the Taber Municipal Hospital.
-Conquerville News – Louise Wutzke
-Congratulations from the district are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kimmitt (nee Doris Dragland) who were married in Medicine Hat on Saturday, August 3. The young ouple will lmake their home in Calgary.
-Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wutzke are proud parents of a daughter, born at the Taber Municipal Hospital, Thursday, August 8. Lynn Dianne weighed six pounds, nine-and-a-half ounces.
Bow Island – The new owner of the store formerly owned by Bert Erickson is Earl Hemsworth. Mr. Hemsworth comets from Gull Lake, SK, where he operated a clothing store for 16 years. It is the new owner’s intention to enlarge the clothing stock of the store and carry such popular lines as Forsyth, E & S, Currie, Stetson Greb, and others.
Mr. Hemsworth will specialize in men and boys’ wear and will not be carrying sporting goods. Mr. Hemsworth has been active in civic and sporting groups in Gull Lake, where he was a member of town council for two years. He was president of the South Western Hockey League for three years and has been a coach and referee with the S.A.H.A. for a number of years, as well as coaching and managing district baseball teams. Coming to Bow Island with Mr. Hemsworth are his wife, Audrey, their nine-year old daughter, Barbara and eight-year old son, Darcy. It is Mr. and Mrs. Hemsworth’s wish to meet and get to know the people of Bow Island and to have them drop in at their store any time.
Bow Island – Mrs. M.M. Ridgedale, is enjoying a visit from her son and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Jack Ridgedale of Edmonton, who are returning from a month’s vacation at the coast. While here, Dr. Ridgedale, who is a foot specialist, is considering the possibility of setting up a practice in southern Alberta.
Bow Island – There is a front page item: “Mid-summer wedding for Sharon Wilson and Ralph Bateman”, married on August 14.
Bow Island – Walter Rowley is home visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N.G. Rowley after finishing summer school in Edmonton. He will be teaching at Foremost as vice-principal this year.
Mr. and Mrs. Dean McKnight, who recently purchased land west of L. Halpin’s farm have moved their home from Taber onto their new property.
