1957, Down Memory Lane: Locals compete in baseball tourney

Bow Island – Mr. and Mrs. Ted Ell and Mrs. Ray Ell visited at the Pete Ell home on Monday before moving their trailer homes to Coronation where the men were working with oil drilling crews.
Bow Island – A daughter was born on Sunday, Aug. 10 to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sevelrud at the Taber hospital. She weighed seven pounds, two ounces.
Bow Island – Elaine Ell has returned home after a six-week vacation with relatives. While in Calgary visiting with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Shatz, she attended the Calgary Stampede and several wrestling matches. While at Whipper Billy Watson’s match, she obtained his autograph personally, which she prizes particularly, although she got others through Henry Viney. When Elaine was visiting at the Dell O’Brien’s at the Lethbridge Experimental Farm, she attended the banquet held in hounour of Douglas Bader; also attended the Rotary Baseball tournament.
Bow Island – Among those attending the Rotary baseball tournament in Lethbridge last week were Bert Knibbs, Elroy Brosz, Pat Knibbs, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Casper, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Willis, Mr. and Mrs. Jim MacKenzie, Reg Taylor, Bob and Jerry Matsumoto.
Bow Island – Andrew Kerner, who has been home the past two weeks visiting his parents at the Anton Kerner’s, returned to Alix on Wednesday, where he is employed with a seismographic crew. Tony Kerner returned with him and will be working with the same company.
Bow Island – Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dann were honoured guests at a farewell social at the United Church last Friday when the congregation met for an evening of fun. Rev. Dougan led the group in a sing-along after which Mr. and Mrs. Dann entertained with a Welsh duet. Ed Schaufele was in charge of the games as well as making the presentation of a Bible to the honorees on behalf of their many friends. Pie and coffee were served at the close of the evening.
Seven Persons – Mrs. Margaret Bassett.
-A second teacherage has been placed on its foundation in the school grounds. We hope it will be ready for occupancy when the new term opens in September.
-The Grade IX final exam results came out this week. All the students whom we have heard from have passed; some with high marks. Roger Smeland came up with two A’s and seven H’s.
Bow Island – Don Hadnagy is doing a fine job of keeping his folks posted on the interesting things going on at the Boy Scouts jamboree and says the only thing wrong with the whole trip is that the time is going much too quickly, although those waiting at home for him don’t agree. He will commence his trip home on Monday.
Bow Island – A baby boy born to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Ell in the Taber hospital early Wednesday morning. The weight of the new son was six pounds, 20 ounces. Patty and Barry are visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Ell, while waiting for their new brother to come home.
