1958: Work being done on Foremost Community Hall

Bow Island
-Congratulations are extended to Doug Egan, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Alf Egan, who graduated and participated in the final Passing Out Ceremony held at the RCMP Headquarters in Ottawa on January 22. Doug received his first posting to Regina.
-Around Gershaw: Room reporters have been selected for the newspaper staff at  Gershaw School. Natalka Didyk,Grade XII; Elaine Ell, Grade XI; Myrna Anderson, Grade X; June Marshall and Delores Hadnagy, Grade IX; Bill Weibe and Joe Dorscher, Grade VIII; and Arthur Shatz, Grade VII.
-Advert: Watch for opening date or – C.M. Neithercut, Watchmaker and Jeweller, in the building formerly occupied by Dr. H. Nikaido (next door to Taylor’s Coffee Shop in Bow Island).
-The Young People’s Group of the Evangelical Free Church held their annual meeting on Friday evening. At this time the new slate of officers was elected for ’58.  Walter Pahl was elected as President; Howard Strom, Vice President; Bernice Heckenliable, Secretary and Darryl Smith, Treasurer.  Lunch committee included Faith, Sylvia and Beverly Strom, Bernice Heckenliable and Faye Lynn.
Foremost Section
-Brian Lynn Hirche, son of Mr. and Mrs T. Hirche suffered a compound fracture of his right arm on Monday night when he fell off a horse. He will be hospitalized at the Municipal Hospital in Lethbridge for about a week.
-While helping to finish the Community Hall, Mr. O. Brownlee had the misfortune of having a plank drop on his head necessitating five stitches.
-The Community Hall has been the scene of great activity this past week. A large amount of wheat and money has been donated and is being used in finishing the Hall.  There has been an average of 25 men working each day and the Hall has been insulated and the walls and ceiling lined.  The cloak room and another small room will be just right for committee meetings, have also been finished.  The lighting system will also be improved. Three rinks from Foremost curled at the Cash Bonspiel in Milk River.  The Ernie Hougen rink consisting of Ernie, Floyd Nelson, Magnus Hougen and Trig Hougen played the Gunner Holte rink of Lethbridge in the finals, and won second prize of $100.
Burdett-Mrs. Dora Warren
– Mr. and Mrs. Bob Miller are receiving congratulations on the birth of a son in the Taber Municipal Hospital.
-Friday evening visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Thacker were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jenkins and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Corraini and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Torgerson.
-The artificial ice plant has now been installed in the Curling Rink and ice is being made.  It is hoped that curling will begin within the next few days.
-Notice to Our Readers: Because of the great difficulty we had in getting our news press back in working order, we were unable to print a paper last week.  The happenings for the past two weeks are in this paper.
