SGS hosts spectacular tourney

It was a busy weekend in Bow Island with Senator Gershaw hosting both boys’ and girls’ 1A provincial volleyball championships and I had a blast covering as many games as I could squeeze into my schedule.
With games taking place at SGS and Cherry Coulee Christian Academy throughout the three-day tourney, I definitely had my options for photo opportunities, that’s for sure, and I seized as many of them as I could.
Of course, that means lots of photos still remain to be sorted through and either deleted or put into another folder. (I will have a photo gallery on our website this week, I promise and I may be a little optimistic here, but I am aiming for Tuesday afternoon should nothing go sideways before then.
It really was great to see the community come out to support their local athletes, especially the loud cheering section. Those folks likely had no voice left by the end of the weekend.
It was also nice to hear positive comments from parents who were visiting Bow Island for the first time and had nothing but nice things to say about the town and the hospitality they were shown.
I have no doubt all of the hardworking volunteers were ready to kick their shoes off and relax after the final game was over.
And I must say, Quinn Lakevold, who held the door open for may many times over the weekend and offered to carry my bags was a true star among many. He did his duties with a smile and it was a pleasure to joke around with him a bit. The sportsmanship pin and recognition he received on Saturday was very well-deserved. Congrats to all who made the event a huge success.
