Bow Island
– A front page picture of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Duffy congratulating them on their 65th wedding anniversary. Mr. Duffy was 92 and Mrs. Duffy was 85 and they have lived in Bow Island for forty two years.
– Roy Loney is new President of Local Lions Club. Roy’s picture was featured on the front page. The new slate of officers of the local Lions presided over the regular meeting held last Thursday night at the Community Hall. Those who will hold office for the coming season include: Roy Loney, President; Pat Knibbs, First Vice President; Ted Caswell, Second Vice President; V. Jones, Third Vice; Jim Roth, Secretary-Treasurer; K. Phillips, Tail Twister; Fred Mellen, Lion Tamer; Directors, Bill Goodwin, Carl Bondy, Tulio Corraini and Elmer Culler. At this meeting the members decided to drop the idea of the small pool which they had planned for the Jubilee Park and look forward to the possibility of planning a swimming pool instead.
– Editorial – One of the most cherished possessions of a free people is the right to speak out on almost any subject under the sun. One of the most neglected responsibilities of a free people is that of not doing something, besides talk, about things they find fault with.
– On Wednesday, September 24, nominations will be accepted for three seats on the Council of the Town of Bow Island, as well as for the Mayor. Henry Luttmer and Tom Noad have resigned and the term of Nick Ancion has expired as has that of Mayor Gus Bonnetti. That one day is the time when those who have “beefs” about the way the Town is run should come forward themselves, or bring forward another citizen, who will try to do the job a little better. An interest in civic politics is  very small payment to make for the privilege of living in a community. Nomination papers are available at the Town Office, those filing papers may do so between 11 am and 12 noon on September 24. Election day is Wednesday, October 15. Councillors Peterson, Jones and Caswell are the remaining members of the Town Council.
– Mr. and Mrs. Leier who have been the proprietors of the 99 coffee shop for the past four years left Bow Island this week. The coffee shop will open in the near future for business under the management of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gatz.
– Steve Hadnagy left on Monday for Bozeman, Montana to further his studies in Agriculture. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Onody of Lethbridge, his Grandparents, accompanied him on the trip.
– Leroy Angle, who has been serving on a Mission Field for the summer months is home for a few days visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Angle. Leroy leaves next week for Edmonton to continue his studies in Theology at the University of Alberta.
– Ormand Lavenne has been spending a few days here visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Lavenne prior to his returning to his Theological studies at U of A.

– A construction crew has been busy installing curbs and gutters on main street and new sidewalks are being laid in front of the Community Hall and the school and also on Leonard Street and Nemiscam Street.
