Wow! Another summer almost gone. They sure fly by faster than winters do, don’t they? Even those young people, who get two months away from their studies to enjoy all the sunshine and summer activities, are probably thinking, ‘where did the time go?’
It seemed like not so long ago, I was covering graduations and people all around me were planning their summer vacations.
Now, here we are at the end of August. Parents are scrambling to make sure their kids have all the necessities for the start of another school year. Bag packs, running shoes, clothes, binders, paper, pens, and the list goes on. I remember shopping with a list from the school and checking off each item as we went up and down the aisles of the store.
Of course, they are always happy to have the new clothes, but the actual approaching start of school often has the young people a bit apprehensive. Who would be in their class? Who would be their home room teacher? And, who would they pal around with this year? Will there be new kids in the class? And, who has moved away?
So many questions fill a young person’s mind as the day quickly approaches. It’s no wonder they feel excited and apprehensive at the same time!
Still, we all wish summer would last just a little bit longer, that we had time for one more camping trip or family excursion before September arrives and the days get shorter.
With any luck, this nice weather will carry into autumn and more outdoor adventures can be had before the studies get too deep and our nights are longer than our days.
