Conquerville News by Margaret Dragland
– Harold Carlson is sporting a new 1959 Impala Chevrolet. Watch out girls cause he is tall, blonde, handsome and “fancy free” besides.
– Blizzard conditions on Friday blocked most of the roads here, including the main roads and as a result the Conquerville School was closed as the busses could not make their rounds. What has happened to our snow plow service? The familiar site of the plow clearing off the roads has been a welcomed relief after a storm. However, this year it seems they felt extremely reluctant about coming out and it has been left up to the school bus drivers and farmers to break through as best they can which still leaves them in a hazardous condition. The year previously snow service here was extended favouring the farmers with the plowing out of their driveways as well as some yards.
Bow Island
– Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Taylor of Welling have been visiting in town this week looking for a home in which to live while Mr. Taylor is working with the local PFRA office. His duties will commence the first of March.
– Mr. and Mrs. Manirod Richter motored as far as Taber last Thursday where they spent the night at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller. Their plans called for a trip to Brooks, but the blizzard changed their minds about that – and home they came.
– The town will be losing a business as well as a popular young couple in two weeks or so when Mr. and Mrs. Carl Neithercut leave for Vancouver where he will enter the distributing business. Note – Carl managed the local Combine baseball team.
– There is a full page advertisement titled “Electrical Fair” for Thursday, February 26, Bow Island Community Hall. All proceeds for the Pee Wee Hockey Club. For the ladies “Fashion in Food” – valuable electrical appliance prizes – admission 50 cents (including refreshments). Electrical Entertainment – Amazing Black Light Magic – Incredible Microwave Cooking – Fascinating Story of Sound. Electrical prizes for: oldest electric light bill, oldest electric coffee pot; oldest electric toaster and oldest electric iron. Sponsored by the Bow Island Lions Club.
– “First Baby Fund” – This is a Chamber of Commerce project to honor the first baby born in the new hospital.
