Bow Island
– The first signs of spring are starting to make their appearance – a very welcome sight it is too. Mrs. Earl Smith says within a week after the snow melted on the south side of her house there were 36 tulips well up.
– What happened at Council Meeting – D. Gibson informed Council that he is withdrawing his application for land. Dr. Woolner’s application for land was approved as was H.R. Willis. R. Bateman’s application for land is to be changed at the new rate of $5.00 per front foot as this is a corner lot.
– The Fireman’s report from the last meeting was discussed with the following motion being passed: “That the Fire Department be paid $2.00 per active man attending practices with a limit of 12 practices per year and $1.00 per hour at fires. That the Fire Department be limited to 12 active firemen and a list of these men be submitted to council every three months, also their phone numbers.”
– Mr. and Mrs. Jack McCracken are the proud parents of a new son born at 10:45 pm on March 5 and weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces.
– Mr. and Mrs. Ed Torscher have moved down from Calgary to take care of the farming operations of the Halpin farm. They have been staying with his parents, the Leo Torschers, while getting their home ready on the farm.
– Mr. and Mrs. Murray Bullock, who sold their farm last fall to the Norvall Coffman’s will be leaving for Taber as soon as they find a home there. They and another partner purchased the Platt Furniture Store and will take over operations the first of April.
Conquerville News by Margaret Dragland
– Bill Wutzke is taking a flying course with the Mannel Air Service in Medicint Hat and finds it very enjoyable.
– George T. Roth, Roy Hadlington, Bill Goodwin and Norman Carlson represented the Conquerville Lions Club at the Picture Butte Lions Club Bonspiel on Sunday in which 16 rinks competed. They lost out in the prizes however, reported having a good time trying.
– The Conquerville Baseball Club held their first meeting of the season Tuesday evening, March 10. Conquerville will be playing in the Irrigation League this year as their old players who joined with the Combines last year will be playing with Conquerville this year. A slate of officers were elected with Stanley Sauer as President, Harold Carlson as Secretary and Robert Roth as Vice President.

– Doctor K.I. Julson, Physician & Surgeon, wishes to announce the opening of his office in the Village of Foremost by early April, 1959.

– The Ellison Elevator and employees are now being deodorized. Last week a rare black pussy cat with a white stripe down his back visited and decided to make his home in the boot of the elevator.
– One rink from the ladies curling club attended the Ladies Bonspiel in Milk River over the weekend. They were Irene Thompson, Viola Baker, Molly Frankish and Gladys Hinchliff. They report they got either 3rd or 4th in the 2nd event.
– Mrs. Martin Boch has been confined to the hospital in Bow Island for over a week where she has been undergoing medical treatment.
