Cypress County’s public works department got quite the experience last week with snow clean up after the municipality saw around 30 centimetres of snow on Nov. 8.
“The County has limited staffing capabilities to deal with events such as this snow storm, shifts are staggered to ensure as much coverage as possible,” said Kim Dalton, the county’s public works director.
The weather pattern had slowed the clean up process.
“Further weather delays and nearly continuous snow fall and wind has slowed our progress clearing the roads,” said Dalton.
“In many places snow storage has caused problems- only being able to move the snow and pile it at the side of roads means when our prairie wind blows, the roads are covered again if even it is no longer snowing. The ground is warm under the snow, which is causing challenges on gravel roads. The snow is wet and heavy, therefore, when plowing gravel, (it) is being peeled off the roads at the same time.”
