Four construction projects in Redcliff have been approved for provincial funding meant to boost economic activity and battle a COVID-caused slump.
The town’s council heard Monday that administrators had received confirmation from the Minister of Municipal Affairs that four applications to the Municipal Stimulus Program had been approved.
They are:
– $315,700 for municipal campground renovations;
– $245,000 for Memorial Park improvements;
– $70,000 to upgrade the town’s tennis courts, and;
– $35,000 for work at IXL Park.
That amounts to a full allocation of Redcliff’s per-capita share of a program that totals $500 million provincewide.
Announced this summer, municipalities had to meet October deadlines to have projects qualified, including the requirement to have them not yet budgeted and complete by late 2022. The province states the grants create about 2,000 jobs provincewide over two years.
Medicine Hat’s allocation from the fund would be $7.52 million, and in early October, city officials presented their list to council.
It included upgrades to the 603 First Street parking lot ($2 million), additional office space ($2.2 million) to make it a multi-use parking and festival space, plus work on the trail system ($1.7 million) and Gas City Campground ($1.3 million)
Cypress County’s allocation would be $911,000 and approved projects include road work in northern parts of the county.
