Arid conditions and extremely hot temperatures have forced Cypress County to issue a fire ban throughout all the county’s districts and townships.
The fire ban will be in effect for all fires, including fireworks, until further notice. The ban order goes on to state:
“Any person who willfully sets a fire, or any fire not allowed under this order, may be charged under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act and Cypress County bylaw 2008/14.”
Cypress County Fire Chief Dennis Mann signed off on the ban at 10 a.m. on June 29.
“Due to dry/windy conditions coupled with very little precipitation has elevated the fire indices within Cypress County to the extreme,” said Mann upon issuing the order.
