Hot off the heels of Redcliff Days, the June 26 Town Council meeting looks to set the tone for the height of the summer.

Council discussed the possibility of requesting a meeting with Ric McIver, Minister of Municipal Affairs. Many issues were discussed as potential topics to speak with the minister about, as per the opportunity afforded by the 2023 Alberta Municipalities Convention; the possibility of what grants were available, but ultimately, Council decided not to request a meeting.

Administration was directed to accept a two-season lease with Redcliff Minor Hockey Association to provide concession services at the Rec-Tangle arena. This contract has been in place to lease the Rec-Tangle concession from the Town of Redcliff since 1995.

It was noted by council that this agreement does not bring in money for the town, as it is leased for $400 a month, but the goal of the contract is to lay out which pieces of equipment either party is responsible for, such as upkeep and replacement, and clarifies certain points over the course of the partnership.

In January 2023, the City of Medicine Hat requested a letter in support of applying for the Northern and Regional Economic Development Grant offered by the Province. The Town of Redcliff, Cypress County, County of Forty Mile, Town of Bow Island and the Village of Foremost, alongside the city, were successful in their application.

On June 19, elected officials and administration attended a meeting to discuss the Regional Economic Development Strategy Project, and were asked to provide guidance on how Redcliff could best allocate the resources in a way that would benefit all regional partners.

At the June 26 meeting, the report was received for information.

The Redcliff Legion has submitted a special event application requesting permission to host a fundraising event at the Legion, the “Rebuild Your Legion” event, which will feature two bands playing in the Legion parking lot.

This potential July 14 event was approved, conditional on the go-ahead of Fire, RCMP, Operations and Legislation and Development.
