Made possible by the generosity of the Troy Loney Charity Golf Classic, Bow Island Council approved the purchase of a new accessible playground.
Earlier this year, the Troy Loney Charity Golf Classic raised money to install a playground near the Westview Retention Pond as part of the development of a recreation area.
The final design, price, and location have been supported by members of the Troy Loney Charity, the Recreation Advisory Committee, following consultation with a local playground company. It was noted that should the equipment be purchased this year, installation in 2023 could be possible should weather and construction time for the equipment itself align.
As stated by the Troy Loney Charity prior to the fundraiser in question, the playground will feature elements to make it accessible to all, such as a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round, a disc swing, and a sensory play station. Features for various age groups who may wish to use the equipment were also taken into consideration.
The surface will be finished with pour in rubber and the quotation includes two picnic tables and two benches. Associated landscaping and irrigation will incur additional cost.
It is expected that the equipment will cost $166,061, with $120,000 for the landscaping and irrigation included in the capital budget as a separate project.
