The Town of Bow Island is looking forward to this harvest season going out with a night to remember, thanks to the North Forty Mile Tourism Society.

This isn’t the first Harvest Festival to make its way to town, but the society thought it was high time it came back, said Kaylee Ostenberg, Recreation Facilitator for the Town of Bow Island.

“We paired up Cherry Christian Academy School, Bow Island Chamber of Commerce, Bow Island Fire Department, and some outside volunteers to create a day of fun for the community,” said Ostenberg.

This year, they’re starting small, hoping to expand in future years, but the event is still quite full of activities throughout the whole of the end-of-September Saturday (Sept. 30) it aims to gather the community for.

“We encourage everyone to come out and see the events going on and to support the community and its groups,” said Ostenberg.

The festival starts the night before, on the 29th, with the Battle of the Businesses, in which local storefronts will compete to see who can decorate the best. This will take place from 1–5 p.m.

After that, the proper day begins with a pancake breakfast at the Bow Island Fire Complex, as well as a land acknowledgement taking place at the Bow Island Multiplex.

“We are also holding an auction for the Pie Throwing Contest,” said Ostenberg. “Pies will be $5 and will be able to pie a volunteer in the face, but the last three big pies will be auctioned off to the highest bidder to throw in three big names around town. All the proceeds made will go towards the decorations to the Town of Bow Island and or back into the Harvest funds to create more events for next year.”

The event will also feature children’s activities at Cherry Coulee Christian Academy, a Craft Fair, a Family Dance, and for older festival-goers, a Harvest Cabaret to finish out the evening.

The tourism society, alongside everyone involved, hope to see everyone out and seeing everything a Bow Island Harvest has to offer.
