Some potential improvements to recreation are underway for residents of Redcliff, out of last week’s Town Council meeting on October 10th.

Council moved to install new sport flooring for the Arena, the flooring surrounding the ice that protects user’s skates when moving on and off of the actual surface.

This project is projected to cost  $17,379.70, also covering the cost of adhesive, GST, and shipping. This comes on the heels of previous flooring needs earlier this year, and will likewise be installed in-house when the space is not in use.

Less certain is the outcome of a proposal from Redcliff Minor Hockey, who wished to instal cameras for LiveBarn service into the arena, to allow for fans to subscribe to see the action in the Arena, regardless of their current location.

While the service is installed free of cost, and makes profit by taking a percentage of subscription costs, currently the Arena does not have strong enough wifi for the task, which would need to be upgraded at cost to the Town.

Council was initially in favour, with Councillor Cathy Crozier making a motion to support the endeavour should the cost of the upgrade be acceptable, but the decision was ultimately tabled, citing concerns of the unknown cost and preferring to be aware what the upgrade will have for a price tag before making a decision either way.

White Fox Group Ltd. is working with Medicine Hat College to develop training for Heavy Equipment Operators to “bridge an existing skills gap” that is being experienced in the Heavy Equipment Operator Industry. They sent correspondence requesting a letter of support for the idea.

Council was enthused in regards to the notion, and moved to send the letter, noting that they do hire HEO workers and that it may be beneficial for the college, which is often looking for new fields to branch out into.
