The Seven Persons ‘A’ Boys Volleyball Wolfpack enjoyed a fantastic crowning achievement to this year’s season, having won the league playoffs on Oct. 30.
It was initially a slow start to the season, said coach Mark Resch. Resch is a teacher at Seven Persons School, but as things wore on, the team really came together.
“I didn’t think we were the team that we ended up being, but you know, after we won, the kids won their first tournament and the first few games, they started to get hungry,” said Resch. “That’s what you always want to see as a coach.”
This gold at the league playoffs was far from their only victory this season, as well, added Resch.
“After they started getting some prizes, they got hungry and kept going through the season with the desire to get the hardware,” said Resch. “And started having a good time. It wasn’t just that they were winning, it was being a part of the team; the team unit was very strong this year.”
The 15 year old boys, students at Seven Persons School, played four tournaments throughout the season, bringing back gold in Irvine, gold at Crescent Heights High School, gold in their home tournament, and making it to the semi-finals at the Notre Dame Academy tournament in Medicine Hat.
Resch joked that he may have been wearing the team out towards the end, and that he believed “that the old man has too much energy for them, I guess.”
It’s been wonderful to watch them take part in the team, said Resch, and enjoy a remarkable season helping coach the “neighbour kids” from his community into a team for their hometown to be proud of.
