Cypress County ready for a brand new year

It’s been a year of firsts for Cypress County.

This year, they hosted their first ever Community Connections Business Luncheon, as well as the Agricultural Connections Conference, said Reeve Dan Hamilton. The conference was completely sold out, and sported both guests and speakers from across the province to touch on a variety of subjects on the minds of local producers.

“That was huge. It was a great success. Lots of people came from all over the province for that,” said Hamilton. 

The County was able to complete multiple projects, including bridges, and various infrastructure upgrades, as well as a few major highlighted endeavours.

“The major projects that were completed included the Irvine Community Resource Center, as well as a new playground at Sandy Point Park,” said Hamilton. “Work has also begun, of course, on the multi-use building in Seven Persons.”

“It’s just phenomenal how Cypress County staff came together and got all these projects done. We’re having so many this year. We wouldn’t have gotten them done if everybody wasn’t working together as a big team,” said Hamilton.

This year was also remarkable for the County’s first responders, as volunteer firefighters were deployed as aid to other parts of the province to help combat this year’s summer wildfires, a point of pride for the county.

“It was a great year; council worked together to put these projects on the table. And the staff did a phenomenal job to get them all done,” said Hamilton. 

With such a busy year behind them, Hamilton noted that they don’t know yet what 2024 has in store for the community. There are some continued bridge projects that will be underway, but so far, finishing what was begun in 2023 remains the focus of the early new year, and Hamilton looks forward to continuing to work with council and staff to tackle what the future holds.
