The Bow Island and Burdett Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the very first Taste of Bow Island on September 13.
Theresa Hardiker, a member of the Bow Island and Burdett Chamber of Commerce who is helping to plan the event, says that for the duration of the event, the Chamber will be closing off Main Street right in front of the Bow Island Bakery and will be holding a four-course meal provided by local producers from around Cypress County and the County of 40-Mile.
“It’s an agritourism event supporting the businesses and producers throughout the region,” said Hardiker.
The evening, Hardiker says, will begin with a cocktail hour from 5 to 6 p.m. and will be followed by a four-course meal at 6 p.m. The food, Hardiker says, will include Greek salads, sourdough bread that is baked locally, and a family-style dinner that will consist of roast beef, pork sausage and chicken schnitzel that will come from Foremost along with vegetables and organic potatoes that are grown in the County of 40-Mile with Saskatoon kuchen and homemade ice-cream for dessert. The evening, Hardiker says, will conclude with a performance from a Medicine Hat Band at The Blues at the Bow beginning at 8 p.m.
“We’re definitely trying to highlight the farm to table idea where we’re bringing the producers from around the region,” said Hardiker. “We’ve got some chefs that are going to prepare and plate the food, and then we will also have spirit tasters and beer tasters and wine tasters, and homemade dessert from the bakery. There’s an opportunity not only for the meal, but also the entertainment and holding that at the Blues Theatre is a great opportunity for people that have never maybe visited Bow Island to be able to see what an amazing venue that they have there.”
The Taste of Bow Island, Hardiker says, came to pass because she wanted to do an expansion of a program called Savor the Southeast.
“Tourism Medicine Hat runs the Savor the Southeast program, and we were able to jump on board to be able to bring this agritourism event to Bow Island similar to those that are held in Medicine Hat,” said Hardiker. “It’s been a collaborative effort throughout the region to bring the event to Bow Island. I think it’s going to be a fun event.”
Tickets for The Taste of Bow Island, Hardiker says, cost $100 and can be found at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-taste-of-bow-island-tickets-982087107977 or by calling the Bow Island-Burdett Chamber of Commerce at (403) 545 6222. The event is 18-plus.
