The GOT 4-H Club held its first meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Porteous’s outdoor riding arena. The event included a group trail ride, meeting, and election led by our past President Alayna Martens.
So far this year we have had two meetings and rides. The first ride went smoothly, with eight members and their horses participating in a short but sweet trail ride around the Porteous’ ranch. After a cool but sunny ride, we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset. On our second ride, on Oct. 19, we had a focus on ground work with our horses. We each had a chance to play with our horses at liberty, which means free and not on a lead rope, in the round pen. Then we worked on the start of a drill pattern that our members will practice together throughout the year. We ended with a couple fun gymkhana events; pole bending and flag collecting.
During the first organizational meeting, members discussed upcoming community service projects and events, such as participating in a grand entry drill pattern for Bulls in the Bow in August.
The club election ran smoothly with the following members elected into these executive positions:
• Shayla Hodgson as President
• Makaya Porteous as Vice President
• Mya Hodgson as Secretary
• Alayna Martens and Jenna Van Gaalen as Co-Treasurers
• Saylor Hiebert as Club Reporter
• Historians as Natalie and Kierann Martens
• Our Junior Council Reps are Alayna, Kierann, Jenna and Makaya.
We are so excited to start another year as a club!
