The Cypress County Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Board met on September 15, 2026, to review ongoing initiatives and set directions for upcoming funding decisions.

June Minutes adopted

The Board began by adopting the minutes from its June 16, 2026, meeting. Among the items confirmed was a one-time donation of $1,000 to the Recovery Alberta Mental Health Capacity Building program. The funds will be drawn from the 2026 FCSS budget. Programs of this kind help build local capacity to respond to the needs of individuals and families throughout the region.

On a motion by Mayor Hamilton, Cypress County Administration was directed to invite Medicine Hat Family Services to appear as a delegation before Council. The invitation was to give the organization an opportunity to present the successes of its program within Cypress County. Council would hear directly from the delegation before making any funding decisions, ensuring that support is guided by clear results and demonstrated community benefit.

New business discussed on the 15th

Following Medicine Hat Family Services’ delegation to Cypress County Council on September 1, 2026, the organization put forward a request for additional FCSS funding to expand rural counselling access for Cypress County residents. The proposed program would see a qualified counsellor available at the Irvine Community Resource Centre one day per week, offering support to individuals, couples, families, and youth.

County Administration, in reviewing the 2025 FCSS budget, identified a surplus sufficient to provide up to $8,436.34 toward the initiative. The proposed one-time contribution aligns with FCSS funding criteria, which prioritize preventative programs that promote the mental, physical, and social well-being of residents. Should the funding be issued, Medicine Hat Family Services has acknowledged that Outcomes Measures reports will be required for submission to the province in 2027.

Looking ahead

The discussions at this meeting underscore the Board’s focus on responsible stewardship and meaningful community support. Residents can expect further updates as adopted minutes are presented on the Cypress County website.
