Dave Harrison threw his hat in the ring to run for Bow Island town council because he believes his experience and knowledge of working on the operations side of municipalities will be a benefit to the community.
“I have worked with municipalities through the operations side and feel it is under-represented,” said Harrison.
Harrison moved to the area in 2000 to work for the village of Burdett and prior to that he worked in water treatment in the oil and gas industry. Currently, Harrison works in Utilities for the County of Forty Mile and moved into Bow Island for about four years ago.
His volunteer work, coupled with his experience with water treatment and utilities would bring value to the table, he said.
“I’ve always been community-minded; whether its been putting the ice in the rink,” said Harrison, who has volunteered with numerous groups and committees in the area, including the Burdett Ag. Society, is currently the district fire chief for the Burdett volunteer fire department, is a director with the Alberta Water and Wastewater Association, president of the Bow Island golf course
treasurer of the Lions Club, and treasurer of the North 40 Mile tourism society. As a Legion member, Harrison spent time sorting, baling, and helping out at the recycling centre.
“I have come to realization, we are all on the same page keep taxes in check, infrastructure, recreation facilities. Innovation is the key to getting many things accomplished and I can help do that,” he said.
