Bow Island golf club becoming a ‘regionalized’ track

The Bow Island Jubilee Golf Club’s is off to a great start to the 2019 golf season as the winter did not cause any hold ups for golfers compared to a year ago where there was snow still on the ground.
“The first couple weeks have been good,” said the club’s new general manager Nick Weisgerber.
“When it’s chilly and windy, nobody wants to come out. But when the sun is out and it’s not too breezy, there’s decent numbers coming out.”
With Weisgerber being new to the position at the golf club, he is still learning what has worked to make the nine-hole track successful in the past.
“Good golf for an affordable price,” he said.
“That’s the biggest thing for us. We get a lot of people coming out from Medicine Hat that realize the good value we deliver. I know a lot of people in Bow Island have got used to that in the past. (I am ) just trying to focus on that, trying to grow our region too, while keeping our small town feel intact.”
Weisgerber says having a golf club, people know the recreation is available, but the continued development of the junior program is a focus in getting younger generations involved in the game.
“Some of our members move away and some are aging and it’s important to not push the game of golf but encourage the game of golf to the younger crowd too and keep that growing,” he said.
The junior program has been well-attended with thirty golfers in the past few years, he added.
Annual events at the club includes the yearly annual prime rib dinner and auction which was held earlier this month, an Easter brunch was held over the weekend and a Sunday brunch will begin in May.
The Elks tournament kicks off the tournament season at the end of May, while men’s and lady’s scrambles and a Senior Open throughout the year.
