As the days of summer come to a close and with seasonal changes in the air, there is also a shift in my commitments highlighted on my calendar. I am left with fond memories of attending parades, BBQs, pancake breakfasts, rodeos and meeting wonderful people throughout the riding. The focus is now on caucus and committee meetings, flight schedules and the business of Parliament.
With summer recess almost over, it gives me the perfect opportunity as we move into a new Parliamentary session, to re-emphasize my commitment to serve the constituents of Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner and all Canadians.
Members of Parliament have two key areas of responsibility. The first is creating legislation by working within the structure of Parliament and its parties to make decisions in the best interest of our country and all Canadians. Secondly, advocating for constituents who have issues or concerns with various federal departments.
However, for Conservative Official Opposition MPs, there is a third and critical role… that being government scrutiny. It is a key mandate for Opposition MPs to challenge proposed and pending legislation introduced by the nation’s government. In our current circumstance, just because the Liberals hold power does not mean any or all of their legislation is of value. It is the Opposition’s responsibility to ensure legislation is fair and equitable for all Canadians, in all regions of the country. This is a task within my job description that I take very seriously on your behalf.
When it comes to aiding individuals with unresolved federal matters, I place my confidence in the highly experienced staff working in both my constituency and Hill offices to maneuver the maze of complex federal delays, directives and frustrations. Responding to tens of thousands of constituent emails and phone calls annually is a responsibility we all take very seriously. Liaising between department personnel and constituents to resolve problems is an undertaking my staff take on for thousands of individuals each year. And I’m proud to say they are all very good at what they do on your behalf.
Should you have a Canada Revenue Agency matter burdening you, such as Child Tax Benefits, income tax or GST issues, please contact the office. Delays securing Old Age Security, Guaranteed Income Supplement, Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan or CPP Disability, contact the office. Or the major issue currently… a delayed passport, call. Immigration issues, Phoenix payroll troubles for federal employees, call. I cannot emphasize enough, my staff have direct access to every federal department, with people in place to get you answers and directions to resolve any of your federally related problems. Additionally, if your business or organization is seeking project funding or other financial assistance, we can help explore those options as well.
It is our honour to serve you. Confidentiality, professionalism and importantly non-partisan customer service is our obligation and commitment to every constituent. My staff and I are all proud of the work we do on your behalf.
