The County of Forty Mile will not be putting in place a state of agricultural disaster as other municipalities have done in response to this summer’s persistent drought, it was decided at council’s meeting on July 22.
“Council is not prepared to declare a state of emergency here just yet,” said reeve, Bryne Lengyel. “We don’t have as many cattle producers as Cypress County and a lot of our area has irrigation.”
Lengyel said council will readdress the issue at their next meeting.
