Coming up fast on their centennial, residents of Hilda will be pleased to hear that the specifics of the celebration are already well in hand.

“We’re gonna have some kids activities going on, like a bouncy castle,” said Bryce Bader, Centennial Committee Chair. “There’s gonna be some axe throwing going on during the day. And there’s gonna be a parade. And then they’re gonna take school pictures for all the people who used to go to school in Hilda, and then some food trucks for lunch and stuff.”

The event, which is slated for July 22, will also feature a catered roast beef dinner for those who register for the event in exchange for a meal ticket.

“Starting at seven, we’re also going to have some beer gardens and live music. We’ve got four bands coming out to play,” said Bader.

A morning church service and a pancake breakfast are also in the works for the following Sunday morning, said Bader.

“It’s been coming together really well,” said Bader. “We have a good committee of people, everyone’s kind of got small roles to fulfil. So that has all been coming together pretty good.”

The committee hopes that the event will give residents of Hilda a chance to catch up and celebrate their home community, as well as entice people from throughout the area to visit and discover what makes the hamlet so unique.

“We have a Facebook page, Hilda Centennial 2023. And then you can register there,” said Bader. “You don’t have to be registered to come for the beer gardens in the evening. But if you want to have supper, you do. There’ll be some free trailer parking again as well. They won’t be serviced or anything but there will be places to park.”
