On September 24, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre tabled a non-confidence motion in the House of Commons, but the initial tally was 211 MPs voting against the motion and 120 in favour, two Independent MPs and the two Green MPs voted against the motion, and other Independents voted with the Conservatives.
Ultimately, MP Glen Motz stated, the Bloc Quebecois and the NDP voted in favor of ‘propping the government up’ and gave them a deadline of October 29 to make some changes to the OAS payments.
“People are wanting this current government to be done,” said Glen Motz, Conservative MP for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner. “Time’s up for them. Costs are up, crime’s up, taxes are up. Constituents don’t want a carbon tax, and it’s time for the government to be done. That’s what I’m hearing predominantly across the riding. We’ve lost confidence in this government. Canadians have lost confidence, and Canadians need to be able to vote for a party that will axe the tax and fix the budget. I grew up understanding that the promise for Canadians is if you worked hard, you could have a good paying job and afford to buy a home in a good neighborhood, but that promise has been crushed under the worst government in Canadian history. It’s time for this government to be replaced by a common-sense Conservative government. I hear this over and over and over again from people in this riding. They ask me “When is this government going to be done? When are we going to have an election? We can’t afford to live anymore.”
Seventy per cent of Canadians, MP Motz says, don’t want the carbon tax.
“It doesn’t do anything for the environment,” said MP Motz. “It just increases the cost of everything. We’ve called the election the carbon tax election, because that’s really what it’s going to be about. People either support the carbon tax or they don’t. They are either okay with the current cost of living crisis, or they aren’t. And right now, we’re hearing from across the country, they certainly don’t support the carbon tax.”
The latest attempt to dethrone the Liberal government through a no-confidence motion occurred on October 1, 2024, and was defeated when the Bloc-Quebecois and the NDP stood by the Liberals to help defeat the motion.
“By the NDP and Bloc Quebecois again propping up the Trudeau Liberals they have sold out Canadians,” said MP Motz.
MP Motz encourages people to contact Bloc Quebecois and NDP members of Parliament to tell them to stop ‘propping up’ the Liberal government.
“If we had thousands of people, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of people from across the country put pressure on the leaders of the Bloc Quebecois and the NDP as well as the NDP, maybe they’ll recognize that they’re not honoring and looking after the needs of Canadians and they need to start,” said MP Motz.
