Redcliff man dead after multi-vehicle collision on TCH

A Redcliff man was killed in a 12-vehicle collision near Gleichen that closed westbound traffic on the Trans-Canada for six hours on Nov. 18, an RCMP release states.

Mounties from Brooks, Bassano and Gleichen responded to the site, east of Cluny, at about 10:30 a.m. as a snowfall warning was in effect.

A late day release stated that the lone occupant of a pick-up truck, a 51-year-old Redcliff resident, was killed in the crash that involved a number of commercial semi-trailers.

Highway condition reports stated the section was snow covered at the time.

Fatal weekend crash

Police say poor road conditions may have contributed to a highway collision that left one woman dead and seven other members of two families injured south of Brooks on Nov. 16.

RCMP from that city say they were called to the site of a crash between a pickup truck and SUV on Highway 36 near the intersection with Secondary Highway 542 at about 9 a.m. 

One passenger, a 51-year-old woman from Scandia, was declared deceased at the scene, while seven people were taken to hospital with “serious” but not life threatening injuries.

The highway was closed while analysis of the collision continued, and the investigation is ongoing.

Trans-Canada rollover

Two people were transported to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Nov. 14 after the vehicle they were travelling in rolled over on Highway 1 near Range Road 104, about five kilometres west of Suffield.

Officers believe the driver overcorrected the vehicle, leading to the accident.

Both the driver and passenger were in stable condition.

Church vandals caught

Brooks RCMP officers say three pre-teen children were responsible for vandalism at the Brooks Alliance Church in late September.

Police reported at that time that they found broken plates, food smashed, paint drawings and swear words on the walls, and paint smeared over furniture at the facility.

The children, aged 8, 10 and 10, are not being named and cannot be charged, but were involved in a “youth restorative justice” proceeding. That provided church members an opportunity to discuss the damage and impact with the children.

RCMP report they were remorseful.
