Interested in photography? Amateur or professional, or simply a shutterbug? Want to make some extra money on a contract basis? Attend a lot of rural community events and snap pictures for social media?
Southern Alberta Newspapers might just have an opportunity for you.
Our chain of weekly newspapers (Sunny South News, Westwind Weekly News, Taber Times, Vauxhall Advance and 40 Mile County Commentator/Cypress Courier) is seeking freelance photographers to cover a diverse variety of events (days, evenings and weekends) throughout our five rural markets in southern Alberta.
There is a special emphasis on locating candidates in various communities in Alberta’s rural southeast including Bow Island, Burdett, Foremost, Seven Persons, Orion/Manyberries, Elkwater, Dunmore, Irvine, Walsh, Schuler, Redcliff and Suffield, as well as communities south of Lethbridge including Raymond, Magrath, Stirling, Warner, Milk River, Welling, Spring Coulee, and Del Bonita.
Freelancers would be compensated based on a per photo scale of images published, with further contract details to be discussed should you be selected as a candidate. If significant travel is involved, mileage may also be reimbursed in some situations.
Photographers would need to provide their own camera equipment, however, it does not need to be professional level and even images taken on a cellphone might qualify if they are of reasonable quality.
If you have the will and want to hone your skill behind the lens while gaining crucial industry experience, please contact Rmcadams@abnewsgroup.com (please reference ‘Freelance Photos’ in the subject line) for further details and to be considered for joining our pool of rural freelance photographers.
