Council met on February 10. One exciting item on the agenda could have town residents heading down a new path – quite literally.

Grant funding is being pursued under the Federal Active Transportation Fund to support of two local projects. The first is a multi-pathway connection route that will provide better access from the north side of the golf course to the clubhouse. It would also link to Centennial Park, the ball diamonds, multiplex, and rodeo grounds. Second is a campground shower house extension that would expand and improve the current facilities and add an outdoor shower for use with the splash park. These items passed pending fund approval.

The Town of Bow Island has appointed a Municipal Enforcement Officer who will undergo training to qualify as a Community Peace Officer. Until the required training is completed and the designation is approved by the Solicitor General, the role will focus exclusively on enforcing municipal bylaws. It was recommended that Benjaman Gouw be officially appointed as the Municipal Enforcement Officer responsible for the enforcement of municipal bylaws within the Town, and this was passed by council.

In January, the Safe Streets and Community Protection Committee had met; their minutes from the meeting were on the agenda. One of the key items was the identification of areas that lacked sufficient lighting, including (but not limited to) parts of Railway Ave, several playgrounds, the arena parking lot, and 5th Ave by the Water Tower. Council will continue to review this matter as the Committee looks into this, and other, issues and brings forth more information. The Committee will meet again on February 26.

As February wraps up, don’t let the cold winter months slow you down! Check the event calendar on the Town website and be in the know about the activities that keep you connected, social, and active in the community. There is yoga at the multiplex, playgroup and ABC baby time, an open gym family event on the 26th, and Bingo at the Golden Age Club.

Council meets again on February 24.
