St. Michael’s School had a busy start in the new year with plenty of activities that nourish the body, mind, and sense of community.
Never too young to make a difference, the Grade 3-5 classes organized Wellness Week (February 3-7) for the whole school to partake in. The events of this week included a different theme each day.
On Mindful Monday, school families did a group stretch together in the gym. On Tasty Tuesday, mouths watered as students anticipated the healthy snacks that were delivered at the end of the day. Despite the chill, Walking Wednesday was a huge success. That was part of the Alberta-wide Winter Walk initiative that encourages outdoor physical activity during the colder months.
Thoughtful Thursday saw hearts of encouragement placed throughout the school. The week wrapped up with Physical Friday – a fun dodgeball tournament that included games against teachers and staff.
The students were also happy to participate in the community event, PJs for a Purpose. On February 7, students could wear PJs to school and donate $5 each to help build a sports themed room on the children’s floor of the Medicine Hat Hospital. The school is happy to report they raised $225.10 for this cause.
The year is just getting started and the students are excited about the upcoming initiatives that keep them focused on continued personal growth, outstanding education, and being a good community citizen. Stay tuned for updates!
