Pickering-Uxbridge MP Jennifer O’Connell is calling for an investigation by the board of Internal Economy with the support of the House of Commons on Alberta United Conservative Party leader Jason Kenney after accusations surfaced on his misuse of a MP residence allowance .
Kenney, who was the former MP for Calgary Midnapore and Calgary Southeast from 2012-15, declared that is primary Calgary residence to be the basement of his mother’s home at an assisted living facility.
One-time Alberta Liberals candidate and now lawyer Kyle Morrow claimed Kenney breached the residency allowance rules by collecting $900 a month while he was still a federal MP.
The tenant of a neighbouring unit told a Calgary TV station that “he (Kenney) never lived there.”
Kenney says he would welcome an investigation and says he has done nthing wrong.
Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Drew Barnes of the UCP backs up his leader, saying “It’s clear to me he followed the rules.”
“He did what so many of us do and that’s help our mother. The NDP and Liberals are looking for deflections from their bad economics and their bad pipeline record.”
Barnes says his leader has been “100 per cent transparent.”
