Redcliff Bakery to expand into the Gas City

Medicine Hat residents that made the trip to the Redcliff Bakery for their delicious baked goods are having their trip shortened, as a second location is opening in the downtown core of the Gas City.

The search for a Medicine Hat location began a year ago, and it was only a couple of months ago that 627 Second St., became available.

That is where Redcliff Bakery owners Melissa and Joel Graber took the opportunity to expand their business.

“Ever since we bought the original location out in Redcliff, we always had a vision for expanding,” said Melissa.

“So many of our clientele come out to Redcliff and are like, ‘Oh, we’d come visit you more often if you had a Medicine Hat location.’ It was always in the back of our minds, that is was what we wanted to do. We just had to wait for timing and getting our feet under ourselves with buying a totally new business and learning.”

When they found the building that is a stone’s throw from the Monarch Theatre, it was the right fit.

“Downtown always peaked our interest as well,” she said.

“It was already pre-renovated. We didn’t have to put a lot of work in to it ourselves and just this part of Second Street is just gorgeous. We love the neighbours we have around here, so we were interested in this spot.”

“Downtown, I feel is really coming back. I feel like there’s a lot business owners that are coming down here, bringing business down here, bringing more foot traffic downtown.”

Melissa described the location as having a bohemian and antique vibe and customers will also see a big photo of the original bakery from 1910 hanging on the wall.

“I really wanted to have some sort of tribute to the original location in Redcliff in this Medicine Hat location,” she said.

“The wall has the horse and buggy with the original Redcliff location.”

The Medicine Hat location will open within the next couple of weeks.

Hours will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday.
