Cypress County has issued a fire restriction as of March 15.

The  fire restriction includes fires and fireworks within the County’s boundaries and all fire permits have been cancelled.

Under Bylaw 2020/05 Section 9-Fire Permits, the County may impose a full or restricted ban upon open fires within Cypress County due to warm, dry and windy conditions.

Additionally, cured vegetation can cause fire behaviour to be extreme.

“A person who wilfully sets an open fire, or any fire not allowed under this order, may be charged under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act and Cypress County Bylaw 2020/05. If the person is the owner or occupant of the land on which the fire is set, those costs may be recovered by placing the costs on the tax roll and recovering them in the same manner as taxes,” as read in the Fire Order Control.
