It was a relatively short meeting on May 23 for Redcliff Town Council, but that didn’t stop them from taking on various new issues and opportunities immediately following the May long weekend.

At the May 8 Town Council meeting, administration asked council if they wished

to apply for a CFEP grant; while council directed them to pursue funding for the grant for current 2023 projects which included upgrades at the Public Works Workshop, it was since determined that the Workshop did not meet the necessary requirements for CFEP funding.

A motion was passed to alter course to submit a CFEP grant application requesting funds to replace the Redcliff Rec-Tangle’s ice plant and refrigeration system, instead. The estimated cost to replace the ice plant/refrigeration system is $900,000, which if successful, the grant would cover half of this to be matched by the town.

Redcliff Minor Hockey Association (RMHA) submitted a letter requesting that Council re-evaluate the ice rental rate increase scheduled for September 2023, and consider introducing a phased increase over the next two years, as opposed to a one-time change.

Council debated the nature of the request, and whether the delay would in fact help those who are requesting the gradual increase. Ultimately, Council made a motion to receive the letter for information.

Previously, Council had moved to tender for a replacement for Unit 121, a 2005 New Holland tractor, which was an older machine that anticipated many repairs. While they received a submission for a New Holland WM75 tractor for $94,900, another submission came in shortly after the tender was closed for a Kubota M7060 tractor for $73,318.18.

It was moved that the Town of Redcliff cancel the RFP for the tractor, and that the Town accept the Kubota submission.

A letter was received from Redcliff Legion, requesting vouchers in order to dispose of items no longer used at the Legion that have not been collected or sold. The letter was received for information.
