In September of 2023, the Town of Redcliff conducted a comprehensive review of the Emergency Management Bylaw. This review aimed to align the bylaw with legislative requirements and enhance the municipality’s emergency preparedness.
Several key areas of the bylaw were updated to ensure compliance and effectiveness in emergency management:
Many definitions within the bylaw were revised to mirror those outlined in the Emergency Management Act, ensuring consistency and clarity in terminology.
Amendments were made to explicitly define the Emergency Advisory Committee in accordance with legislative mandates, specifying its role and composition.
Revisions were introduced to delineate the powers available to the municipality upon the declaration of a State of Local Emergency, emphasizing the authority and responsibilities during such periods.
The functions and duties of the Emergency Management Agency were incorporated into the bylaw to meet regulatory requirements, outlining its role in coordinating emergency response efforts.
A new section was added to the bylaw, defining the powers and responsibilities of the Town Council concerning emergency management, consolidating relevant provisions previously dispersed throughout the bylaw.
Additionally, a significant addition to the bylaw was the introduction of a Regional Emergency Management Plan, reflecting the town’s commitment to collaborative emergency preparedness efforts with neighboring municipalities.
