Approximately 3.6 million electors voted in the advance polls of the general election, a 71 percent increase from the 2.1 million who voted in advance for the 2011 general election. Having an additional advance polling day, held last Sunday, is part of the reason for the increase.
“Many Canadians chose to vote at advance polls in this election,” said Marc Mayrand, chief electoral officer of Canada.
More than 8,000 electors voted in the Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner advance polls.
The polling stations will be open for 12 hours across the country; however those hours will be staggered so the results will come in at roughly the same time, according to Elections Canada.
In Alberta, with Mountain Time, the polling stations will open at 7:30 a.m. and will close at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19.
