Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta

Longtime community leader Gordon Reynolds has been named one of Southeast Alberta’s 2026 Top 7 Over 70 recipients, recognizing years of service and his continued commitment to strengthening Bow Island.

For the past 10 to 15 years, Reynolds has been actively involved in numerous initiatives important to the community and region, including the Highway 3 Twinning Development Association, North 40 Mile Waste Commission and Highway 3 Water Commission, in addition to serving his community as Mayor.

More recently, his attention turned to one of Bow Island’s most pressing challenges: access to local healthcare.

At the beginning of 2025, the community was facing a significant healthcare challenge with only one physician serving the community. Gordon Reynolds spearheaded an effort to take over the community medical clinic and establish a for-profit Municipally Controlled Corporation (MCC), creating a new model for operating the clinic and supporting physician recruitment and retention.

Today, Bow Island’s hospital is operating at full capacity with two physicians, while the clinic is operating under the MCC model.

Reynolds’ recognition through Top 7 Over 70™ Southeast Alberta celebrates not only what he has accomplished, but the difference that decades of knowledge, relationships, and community commitment can continue to make.

He joins six other recipients from across Southeast Alberta: Gail Anderson, David Carter, Les Little, Uwe Karsten Krickhahn, Ron Edwards, and Terry Cooper.
