Cypress County’s annual organizational meeting held Oct. 20 saw a few changes, including a new deputy mayor.
Dan Hamilton remains mayor of Cypress County following the Oct. 20 meeting, but the role of deputy mayor will now be filled by Coun. Robin Kurpjuweit following a vote between him and Coun. Shane Hok.
Outside this change, a majority of the various boards retained the same council members who were sitting on them the previous year as each opted to let their name stand.
Notable discussion included the value of remaining on the Highway 3 Twinning Development Association due to its $6,000 membership fee, but it was advocated there was still value in being part of the association. In contrast, Coun. Blaine Brost opted to step down from the Alberta Health Regional Advisory Council, as did Council Alternative Lloyd Want.
Brost commented he felt they were “far to the bottom of the totem pole to actually make anything happen” with the advice and opinions provided to the ministers. Coun. Garry Proctor stepped up to the seat.
